Pat Gallardo Dwyer is the Founder and CEO of The Purpose Business. They help organisations in Asia to embed purpose and sustainability into their business strategy and operations.
They map environmental, social and governance (ESG) impacts and help scale them responsibly to future-proof business amidst global volatility.
She and her team have been partners to listed companies, global organisations and even start-ups on embedding purpose and sustainability into their business strategy and operations. Some of these organisations include Marsh Asia, Cathay Pacific, The Hong Kong Shanghai Hotels (Peninsula), First State, Danone, Swire Properties, Vitasoy, Metro Pacific , Universal Robina Corporation and Century Pacific Food in the Philippines
Pat has more than 20 years sustainability leadership experience, including as the first global head of CSR and sustainability for Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts .
She brought Shangri-La to the forefront of responsible tourism operations, making it the only Asian hotel group to be recognized in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
By the time she left, she had developed programmes across 90 hotels in 22 countries covering a broad spectrum including carbon management, diversity, environment stewardship and employee engagement.
She was instrumental to banning the service of shark’s fin in 2012, and preparing the groups’ first ESG report that garnered first from the UN Global Compact, CDP, and the World Travel and Tourism Council.
Pat was also also the first CSR head of Ayala Land in the Philippines where she broke ground with its first GRI 3.1 sustainability report in 2007 and the first fully-mixed used facility, Nuvali, to be certified under LEED Certification.
A regular keynote speaker in conferences and to board audiences, Pat often is invited to share thoughts and trends in sustainability, leadership, purpose and governance.
Pat has an MA in Globalisation & Governance, and certificates in Transformational Leadership (University of Oxford) and Global Leadership & Public Policy for the 21st Century (Harvard Kennedy School). She is a fellow of the Asia Society and the Royal Society of Arts, she is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and sits on the Boards of Enrich, a non-profit pushing for financial literacy of migrant workers in Hong Kong.
